Jacob Timothy Rohrs entered college with a passion for taking care of people and the intent to find his way to medical school. His father is a physical therapist and influenced his path into medicine from a young age. Dr. Rohrs spent summers and weekends working in the family physical therapy office, learning about anatomy, biomechanics, and musculoskeletal function. After three years of college at Villanova, he matriculated into Drexel University College of Medicine. During his time in medical school, he explored numerous specialties including General Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery but finally set his sights on physical medicine and rehabilitation as it focuses on restoring patient function without the need for major operations. Small procedures lead to a big difference in patient quality of life.
He went on to complete his internship in Internal Medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he began to garner his understanding of what it truly means to be a doctor. Traditional physicians have a sense of responsibility to make sure the needs of his or her patients are fully addressed and that a patient’s symptoms must be taken in the context of their individual life - their body, their work, their hobbies, their family. He would go on to serve as chief resident in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Temple University Hospital and Moss Rehab in Philadelphia.
His experiences in spine care during residency drove his passion to pursue further training in interventional techniques. This transition would take him to the desert for a year of fellowship training at Barrow Brain and Spine. After completion of his fellowship, he established an interventional arm of the practice in Scottsdale where he sees patients currently. Dr. Rohrs became the youngest faculty member of the fellowship training program and was soon after selected for the North American Spine Society’s Top 20 Under 40 award in 2023.
His Philosophy
Dr. Rohrs’ overall approach to taking care of his patients is to consider what he would want for a member of his own family. He prioritizes taking the time needed to perform thorough examinations to reach the correct diagnosis as soon as possible. He prides himself on performing each of his procedures to a quality that could be published in a textbook. That level of quality is pervasive throughout his entire team to ensure an excellent experience for all who are under his care.
